On Becoming a Lutheran

Welcome!

All of God's people are welcome to join us to worship God in the spirit of peace and Christian brotherhood, and with respect for our liturgy.

We wish to extend a special welcome to the students in our city and invite you to join in our worship services.

For any international students who may be unfamiliar with the Christian faith we would like to assure you that visiting with us will impose no commitment on you.   The only commitment is one that you choose to make for yourself when you accept the Word of God in your heart.

If you wish to become a Lutheran and you are already a Christian (that means, if you have already been baptised in a Christian church, but not a Lutheran church) you may do so by affirming your adherence to the articles of the Lutheran faith as enunciated within Luther's Small Catechism.

If you are already a Christian and you desire to be received into the Lutheran faith in Christ, please contact our Pastor and inform him of your interest.   Preparation for Confirmation may be done by individual or group discussion and instruction.

If you wish to become a Lutheran and you are NOT already a Christian (that means, if you have not yet been baptised in a Christian church), you may contact our Pastor and inform him of your interest.   Preparation for Holy Baptism may be done by individual or group discussion and instruction.

What is Baptism?
The Sacrament of Holy Baptism is God's gift of Salvation through your faith in his Son, Jesus Christ.
Baptism is explained within Luther's Small Catechism.

What is Confirmation?
As a general rule Lutherans are baptised as infants, and are given the opportunity, once they have reached the age of reason, to affirm their faith before the congregation in a Confirmation ceremony.   Confirmation is your solemn declaration of belief in God and your public promise that you accept the responsibilities of living a Christian life.
